In One Breath, One Last Breath - Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 10:02 AM |
You see the kid with his school bag. It probably weighs a lot less than your laptop or your briefcase, but to the small guy, it's a ton. Spelling tests, the multiplication table, all he stares at everyday. His goal? To score 10 out of 10 in all his tests so he can go out and play.
You see the teenager with his sling bag. It probably weighs a little heavier than the kid's schoolbag, might be 'cos the books are thicker and deeper. O Levels, A Levels, CCAs, all he faces everyday. His goal? To get good results so Mummy won't throw a fit and Daddy will buy him that shiny BMX he always wanted.
You see the soldier with his Full Battle Order. It weighs a hell lot more than the teenager's sling bag, definitely because of the extra clothes, extra water bottles etc. he's carrying. SOC, IPPT, Route marches, all he experiences everyday. His goal? To ORD and continue with the life that the government has put on hiatus.
You see the young businessman with his briefcase. It weighs a lot less than the soldier's field pack, but the responsibilities he shoulders should more or less make up for that loss. Bills to pay, kids to feed, Bosses to please, all he expects everyday. His goal? To make enough moolah to bring him through his golden years.
You see the old retiree with his golf bag. It weighs much heavier than the businessman's briefcase, but it doesn't really matter 'cos the caddy whom he paid handsomely is carrying it. Hole-in-ones, decisions on the next holiday destination, all he does everyday. His goal? To live life to the absolute fullest.
You see the wrinkled man in his coffin. He's.... dead.
One moment you're leading your life, doing the things you deem fit to complete a goal, next moment, you're an object.
If Elvis was brought back to life now, what will he exactly be doing?
Well, scratching the cover of his coffin.

I'm currently on some movie marathon thingy. Of course i download 'em, dvds are just too overpriced. For all you movie-goers out there, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a definite must watch! And if you actually missed it, doubt you can call yourself a movie-goer. Anyway, it's definitely a sure-stay on my favourite movies list. Please please please, do yourself a favour and download it or buy the dvd. You wun regret it.
Eternal Sunshine... really makes you think. All those couples out there bickering bout this and that, breaking up like their relationship isn't worth a thing. It's a "don't go about wishing for things, your wish might just come true" kind of movie. Like the dude in the movie, wanted to erase his ex from his mind, and when he comes to realise the reality, implications and effects of such a process, he begs to keep even one memory of his ex. It's only, when you really lose something, that you realise the positive side of it. Wah... i feel so... wise. Haha.
Last week's theme was violence. Caught Fight Club and Bowling for Columbine. This week's romance. Done with Eternal Sunshine and Love Me if You Dare (some french show which is pretty good actually). Next up is Amelie (Another french show. Apperently the french are the so-called most romantic pple on earth, so i don't see how wrong i'll go with romantic french movies....) and Virgin Suicides. If anyone has any good shows to reccomand, pls pls pls, mail me or something. And no, Rocky and Rambo are not good shows.
Think the theme currently for my movie-watching list will remain as romance. I'm a hopeless romantic. really.
