 For Your Viewing/Listening Pleasure - Monday, April 23, 2007 at 10:52 AM
7 hours to my first paper. I'll make this a quick one.

The newest sith lord apprentice, darth scooter. *yoda voice* Began, the canine wars has.

Currently listening to (meaning, you should go take a listen too)

With Legs Like That - Zebrahead
WWE Maria's entry theme. I think i said enough to have half the guys reading this to go check it out.

From here on, it's pretty much all local stuff. Please don't get irked by the "made in da Singapura" tag and check it out. Supporters of local music are probably familiar with the following, and skeptics, try it. You won't believe all these bands are home-bred.

Love In New Wave - Electrico
Rocking in the red, the white, but without the blue. If you know what i mean.

Now We Will - West Grand Boulevard
Probably the best song WGB has ever written... in their pre-Daphne Khoo days, mind you. No nasal whining for me, please.

Girl On Queen Street - Plain Sunset
Solid indie rock stuff. Damn tight band. Saw them jamming some 7 years back and it's inspiring stuff man.

Siti - Force Vomit
My favourite song. Go to any Force Vomit gig and you'll always have at least one kuku shouting "siti! siti!" And for good reason too. This one can be the anthem to the 90s Singapore Music Scene.

Now go... find the songs, listen, and be awed with our local products.

Holiday Resolutions - Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 12:47 PM
It's that time of the year again, the frantic mugging period. As of now, i've caught up with 2 modules (more or less), 1 left a bit more, 1 more half done (meaning haven't touch since mid terms), another one never-paidmuch-attention-to-it-cos-i-SU-ed-it, and another one haven't touched since... ermm... in fact, it's haven't touched, period.

6 modules can be a killer, but somehow i'm quite calm about the preparations, despite it being 4-5 days to exam day. I'm not dead calm, but unusually calm, that it kindof scares me. Must be numb to the pain already. I'm just waiting for the realisation that i'm actually pretty screwed, which would most probably hit me around 6-7 hours before my first paper. And yes, i don't usually sleep before every paper. There goes the theory on "you remember things better after you have slept on it", out the window. Win some, lose some.

And like any exam preparation period, the breaks in between studying is spent on "what should i do after exams". It's probably the only thing that keeps us students sane amidst the last minute attempts to squeeze a semester's work into our heads in a matter of weeks, no, days.

Anwyay, here's my list, for the moment:

1) Dissect the bassline of every Bon Jovi song on the crossroads album. Then move on to John Mayer Trio, Pino Palladino stuff. Every year keep saying want to level up, now must make that resolution, and be more specific.

2) Learn Pachelbel Canon, on... ermm.. piano. It's kindof embarrasing that i've taken piano lessons in my younger days, and when someone asks me to play a classic, all i can whip out is chopsticks. Gone, shall be the days of being ridiculed that my piano grade 6 cert is a cheap counterfeit bought from Indonesia.

3) Sell off all my excess stuff in my room, actually mainly pedals which are obviously bought on impulse. Proceeds will go to my thunderbird fund, which is not an impulse, cos i'm actually saving up for it. i think. i shall go ponder over whether it's excessive, after my exams of course.

4) Do something worthwhile. Point to remember for personal reference.

5) Run/exercise/workout/anything/everything. Need to clear IPPT in June. Now even physcial fitness test also last minute got to cram. I think i've reached the peak of procrastination mastery.

So little time, so much to do. Especially, knowing myself, the sofa and a televsion before me are 2 good enough reasons for me to forget such resolutions. Such is the enthusiasm and energy of the youths today.

Tune In For Your Music Fix, right here on WCKRZ - Monday, April 02, 2007 at 8:37 AM
Alrighty. Music for the music lurvers.

For the haters, don't knock it till you've tried it

Spitalfield - I Loved the way she said L.A.
Pop/rock(ish). My favourite pop/rock bassist. nice bass tone with cutting mids, a slight bass drive, and anticipating notes which you rarely hear that fits so sweeetly. Time to get my Pbass fixed up....
In all, a catchy song which you would want to sing along to, except when you're in the library studying, for obvious reasons.

Speaking of which, OT a bit, got to watch this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=NvMfJ6O97bA
You might want to turn the volume if you're using your home PC. =P

blink-182 - The Rock Show
Hey hey hey. Hard to believe, but it's quite a cool love song! Serious. No really. Go listen to it

John Mayer - Split Screen Sadness
Ok, this one's REALLY a cool love/on-the-verge-of-break-up song. John Mayer's an artist with words man.. a modern day poet in his own right.

Fallout Boy - Thriller
Fallout Boy + Jay-Z. 2 words. kick ass

Lostprophets - Everyday Combat
Solid song. The only metal band i'm listening to at the moment.

Daughtry - Used To
Nice song, very nice vocals. If you somehow didn't like daughtry's first single, this is the one that will make you a fan.

Suspension - Mae
This one has stayed in my playlist for a pretty long time. So do yourself a favour and check this song out.

Wait a Minute - Pussycat Dolls feat. Timbaland
Nicole Scherzinger. woot. But other than that, it's really quite a good song. Really.

Turn Me On - Norah Jones
A nice touch of jazz, to end off a list of (imho) must listen to songs.

So i've covered pop, rock, metal, jazz... quite diverse la. In a mainstream sort of way.

Guts and Gory - Sunday, April 01, 2007 at 8:30 PM
Have you watched any TV recently? It's becoming a gore-fest out there. i'm convinced kids should stay away from the telly and stick to barney and spongebob squarebutt.

Nonono. I'm not talking about CSI. Have you seen the latest anti-smoking campaign ads? Gross stuff. I don't flinch (much) even when watching band of brothers, but when i first saw this ad, I got friggidy friggin freaked out. And sadly, it wasn't because of the "dangers of smoking", but more like... "ZOMBIE ZOMBIE!"

There is nooooo way at all, a person who looks so freakishly ghoulish and can barely talk through her chapped (and i do mean CHAPPED) lips would want to come on TV to do this ad. Of course, it was obviously an actress but i was so shocked i needed that fact to be pointed out to me.

First gross pictures on ciggy boxes. That one's fine for me. You wanna smoke, you endure the pictures. Now on television? Ay, cannot la.

Besides, fear has already been did and overdone with regards to all this guts and gore. Decaying lungs, rotting mouth.... try something different la, something more effective. Like...

Smoking causes impotence.

i think if any smoker who comes by this page and only reads the words in bold, he'll be gauranteed smoke free. You see, smoking can destroy your lungs, your heart... whatever. Most smokers don't really give much of a damn. But their manhood?

Ah.... jackpot. Uncle Lee, you listening?
