Google Me - Monday, August 15, 2005 at 9:39 AM |
For those who know me, you've probably heard this phrase at least once, if not, i'm saying this now: "Google is damn powerful!" Most reactions i get are blank stares and "huh? search engine is search engine wat... wat's the big deal?"
Frens, frens.... you dunnoe what you're missing out on. Well, google has served me faithfully for the past few years, now it's time to return the favour... Google tutorial time!
Google is super powerful.... for searching people on the net. Especially their blogs. heh.
First off... the 2 most important functions of Google. Doing a search of a specific phrase and doing a search in a particular website. Simple... to do a search on let's say... a name. let's say... Jack Lee. Typing in purely those 2 words will give you sites like "Lee Ming jacks his friend..." (okok, bad example... but it's JUST an example.) Which is something you want to avoid. How? Simple. Include inverted commas, like so: "Jack Lee".
For specific site search, for example, you want to search for Jack Lee in blogspot.com. It's useful cos if the person you're searching for has the same name as some bigshot in a multimillion firm, you're gonna get a whole load of useless sites that includes financial bullcrap sites. So the search will go something like this: "jack lee" site:blogspot.com
If by some reason you still don't get this, follow these steps: 1) Remove brains from your buttocks. 2) Put it back where it should be. (*hint* it's supposed to be in your head) 3) Go to Google.com and click advanced search. It's fool-proof. Yup... fool proof, so if you still can't figure it out, you're a FOOL
There.
Now, you can search for anyone's blog, if they do have one. Usually not all blogs will be shown, but by typing the person's name, it'll probably link up to their fren's blog, then you can slowly link your way back to the particular person! It works more than half the time... at least for me.
On the contrary to what people say, that this is a invasion of privacy, or what they call as blog perving, i think otherwise. With very good reason. I mean... you post your stuff on the internet.... wat the heck? What you expect! Everything accessible on the net is for others to read right? If you do type out your personal thoughts and feelings on your blogs with the intention of personal reflection and not for people to read... do what i do, along with the smarter people on earth.... all 37 of them.... keep a diary for goodness' sake.
Which is why you'll only get nonsense in this blog. At least it's funny nonsense... ermm... right?
*BONUS: How popular is thy blog?
http://www.technorati.com/
Type in your blog's link in the search bar, and you;'ll see how many websites are linked to yours!
This is indeed an educational blog. And in the interest of attention whor-ing, you can thank me in my chatbox beside this entry.
Thank you. -
