Do The Stars Gaze Back? Now That's The Question... - Monday, January 28, 2008 at 9:45 AM
Having re-read my last post, I do find I'm a little harsh on local dramas.

No, don't get me wrong here. I still think most of the present day actors stink. Not all, most. The new 9pm and current 7pm dramas have only reinforced my view on this, speaking of which, the 7pm one really had me in stitches a week ago. There was a rather serious scene with the young male actor (presumably one of the leading actors) lashing out on another guy, and it was just plain funny cos he was blurting out line after line of half-baked chinese, his eyes, telling of a fresh actor struggling to remember his lines and his face, contorted in a miserable attempt to suggest anger, however, resembled more of a monkey making faces in a zoo.

Argh, there I go again, over-criticising young local actors. But I can't help it! It just kills me that I actually find a drama funny, when it's supposed to be dead serious.

Anyway, as I was saying, I am thankful, maybe in the littlest way possible, for today's local dramas. Just because... they make any and every other film/television show look so damn good. And if these movies/shows were already good to begin with, you'd be tagging these movies as epics, must watch shows of our generation, labelled deservingly as a "classic" etc. I was mighty glad i sat through a whole 5 minutes of that 7pm show (as mentioned 2 paragraphs ago), 'cos to erase the painful yet ironically laughable experience, I decided to finally watch Stardust after procrastinating since December. I tell you, it is now easily one of my alltime favourite movies. Good acting became masterclass performances, the great screenplay became one of absolute brilliance and beauty and the overall experience, from wonderful to breath-taking. All easily done with just 5 minutes (which might seem an eternity to some) of our locally produced drama. Relativity can be such a wonderful thing when you work it in your favour.

I wonder how I'll rate Pluto Nash after sitting through a full hour of that 7pm show.

Pretty darn good, i'm assuming.
